Filipino American History Month: Rewriting History Through Organizing

On Saturday, October 21, as part of AFIRE's participation in celebrating Filipino American History Month, AFIRE centered its Membership Meeting around the narratives and experiences of Filipino/a/x community. Recounting our history through contexts such as colonialism, labor movements, diaspora, and intersectional identity.

As domestic workers, many of our members can mark history through our recent Domestic Workers' Bill Rights campaign, in which Illinois became the 6th state to officially pass the law protecting domestic workers. It is through victories such as the DWBOR campaign, that we can continue to reclaim our rights and power as active members of the Filipino American community.
