JOB DESCRIPTION

Citizenship Coordinator and Educator (Full-Time)

 

Position Summary  

Under the supervision of AFIRE’s Executive Director (Michael Aguhar) and in coordination with the Community Organizer (Christine Sumog-oy) and Outreach Coordinator (Tess Brion), this person will conduct outreach and screen for eligibility to apply for U.S. Citizenship.  Additionally, the position will require the coordinating of resources for regular citizenship workshops or scheduled in-office appointments.  After the workshops, the coordinator will hold regular classes on civic education for interested applicants in preparation for citizenship interviews.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Outreach to the Filipino community to identify legal permanent residents who may be eligible to apply for U.S. Citizenship

  • Conduct workshops and informational sessions about how to apply for U.S. Citizenship at locations such as churches, grocery stores, and businesses

  • Schedule appointments for eligible clients to receive application assistance

  • Coordinate staff and volunteers to assist in outreach and workshops

  • Collect and organize intake information used for reporting and recordkeeping

  • Entering data and personal information into a database

  • Soliciting applicants for attendance in civic education classes in preparation for citizenship interviews

  • Leading civic education classes and following assigned curricula to empower applicants to understand concepts related to U.S. civic education

  • Coordinating with the lead agency, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, for materials, trainings, meetings, and other resources as needed

  • Collect intake forms, scan documents, and maintain accurate records

  • Provide written reports of outreach activities to achieve deliverables

  • Attend trainings, orientation, and staff meetings to report on work conducted

  • Other duties as needed related to the above responsibilities and as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of Filipino community and culture

  • Strong public speaking skills to present information about eligibility to apply for U.S. citizenship

  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop relationships with Filipino community leaders and potential applicants

  • Background or experience in immigration law concepts is a plus

  • Ability to work independently and proactively communicate updates with AFIRE staff

  • Ability to lead workshops and classes for Filipino immigrants

  • Knowledge of project/program management practices

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Google Productivity Apps such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets

  • Ability to work with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizing skills

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Access to reliable transportation throughout the City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs

 

COMPENSATION

Commensurate based on experience

JOB DESCRIPTION

Community Health Organizer (Full-Time, Short-Term)

 

Position Summary  

Under the supervision of AFIRE’s Executive Director (Michael Aguhar) and in coordination with the Community Organizer (Christine Sumog-oy), this person will coordinate health programs as a tool for community organizing.  Additionally, this person will conduct outreach and education to community members about cardiovascular health, First Aid/CPR, and viral Hepatitis.  In doing so, this person will work to address fundamental barriers within the community related to health and access to health care services.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend trainings, orientation, and staff meetings and report on work conducted

  • Outreach to targeted demographics to provide health information

  • Conduct relevant workshops or informational sessions about Hepatitis B or other health programs

  • Hold one-on-one discussions with community members that are identified as possible candidates for health screenings

  • Coordinate resources for First Aid/CPR workshops with an outside trainer

  • Coordinate referrals for community members in need of health services

  • Collect intake forms, scan documents, and maintain accurate records

  • Coordinate with lead agency, Asian Health Coalition, for materials or additional support related to program implementation

  • Provide written reports of health programs

  • Other duties as needed related to the above responsibilities and as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of community health approaches and the capacity to keep updated on current changes

  • Strong public speaking skills and ability to present relevant information about Hepatitis B and access to health care questions to community members

  • Ability to work independently and proactively communicate updates with AFIRE staff

  • Ability to develop curriculum and conducting workshops for immigrants

  • Knowledge of project/program management practices

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and Google Productivity Apps

  • Ability to deal with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizing skills

JOB DESCRIPTION

Title V Office Assistant (Part-Time Paid Volunteer)

 

Position Summary  

Under the supervision of AFIRE’s Community Outreach Coordinator (Tess Brion), this person will be employed through the Chinese American Service League (CASL) in the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), under Title V of the Older Americans Act administered by the U.S. Department of Labor.

 

SCSEP provides low-income seniors the opportunity to gain meaningful, part-time, paid work experience in community service positions.  SCSEP is an employment and training program designed to assist seniors in updating their job skills and transition them into unsubsidized employment.  SCSEP also provides a community service through senior participants work at government or community based host agencies.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Be 55 years of age or older;

  • Be unemployed

  • Reside in Cook County, IL

  • Be eligible to work in the United States

  • Have income at or below 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL):

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of Filipino community and culture

  • Strong interest in developing administrative, in-office skills such as receiving clients, returning phone calls, record keeping, and office supply inventory

  • Ability to learn basic computer skills such as creating/editing/saving files, using Microsoft Word & Excel, using web based platforms such as Google Chrome, Google Mail, and Google Docs

  • Ability to work independently and proactively communicate updates with AFIRE staff

  • Ability to work with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

COMPENSATION

Part-time (12 hours) at $10.50/hour
