Celebrating the One Year Anniversary of the DWBOR Law

CHICAGO--On January 20, Illinois Coalition partners, Latino Union and the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) joined AFIRE in celebrating the anniversary of the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights law. A victory that took years of hard work, and dedication by domestic worker leaders themselves alongside organizations such as NDWA, AFIRE, and Latino Union.

The celebration took place at HANA Center, where AFIRE's offices are located, welcoming over 50 celebrants, many of them, domestic worker leaders active in the ongoing campaign around implementation of the law. Volunteers from Northwestern University's Filipino American student group, Kaibigan, also attended, providing additional support and energy for the day's event.

The celebration's program brought together community members from multiple cultural backgrounds and identities, with on site translators for Tagalog, Spanish and Polish. Celebrants reflected on the work being done since the passing of the law, and how this law has impacted the domestic worker and immigrant working community of Chicago. The celebration ended in tones of joy, hope and...dancing!

To support the work being done by domestic workers, for domestic workers, please donate $25, $50, or $100, today. For more information on how to get involved, please contact us by email, contact@afirechicago.org.
